NOVEMBER 2006

November is traditionally a month of 1 day fairs that support bonfire, fireworks and Christmas lights events. Bonfire fairs are usually the first 2 weeks of the month with the switching on of Christmas Lights towards the end of the month going into December as well.

On the 2nd, Derek Slater hosted the annual fireworks display at Carlisle, with quite a few changes to the line up from the past few years which used to see the likes of Stringfellows Superstar and Hickeys Tagada. Still 9 large rides and 2 Simulators to choose from makes Carlisle one of the bigger fairs. Hornes normally visit 2 fireworks fairs on the 5th - Dunfermline and Inverness but this year due to police intervention, the Dunfermline fair was cancelled as they thought the fair did not give the event the "family feel" that it was intended to do. Instead the 3 rides - Jumper, Miami & Twist opened at a new venue in Drumchapel Park in Glasgow. Also held on the 5th were Burntisland, where Benny & Jensen Codona were open, Strathclyde Country Park saw 5 large rides attend including Damien Batemans 2 machines and John Wheatleys Miami. Staying in Glasgow, Glasgow Green played host to Jimmy Irvins fair with 7 large rides mainly 'Funtime Carnivals' array of machines along with Joe Taylors Waltzers, Evans' Skydiver & Dodgems and Whites Tagada - the line up remaining the same as last year.

In mid November, the Slaters & Co continue their backend run of villages in the borders - Maryport and Workington with Maryport being the larger of the 2 with 10 large rides including David Taylors Freak Out, Waltzers and Twist. Also open at Maryport were Reuben Slaters Challenger and Rock'O'Plane coming to the end of their first season.

St.Andrews switching on of the christmas lights was supported by Benny & Jensen Codona who brought along their ever popular Miami and newly purchased Twist. Damien Bateman was also present with his Round Up and a good selection of Juveniles were on offer too including Philip Paris' colourful 'Big Boot' Funhouse. Benny & Jensen are also planned to support Cupar and Anstruther with their switching on as well.

Just one ride change to mention this month as mentioned above, Jensen Codona has purchased the ex Albert Wheatleys Twist from Gamble and Miller after just one season with the partnership. During the season though, the ride has had a major paint job and the ERF (Ex M&D's) that is used with the ride was also redecorated. - Good Luck to Benny & Jensen with their new purchase!
