MARCH 2006

Funtime Carnivals kicked off March with a fair at the Big W supermarket in Edinburgh. Although 'Funtime' have opened at this site before, this is a different time for them. Usual 'Funtime' machines were present along with Joe Whites Ghost Train, Johnie Lawrences adult Chairs and Strands newly purchased Round Up. Funtime Carnivals also presented fairs at Johnstone, IKEA in Edinburgh and Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld. IKEA fair was slightly smaller with the 4 'Funtime' machines plus Johnie Lawrences Chair'O'Planes which have been travelling with them. The same machines then moved to Cumbernauld like last year but for a shorter stay. At this fair a set of Dodgems were also presented as an extra machine. The set now belonging to Vance Smith were purchased from Garry Evans at the tail end of last year. Dodgems rarely appear on 'Funtime' grounds now since the selling of their own set a few years ago but Smiths new set looked to be doing very well.

Elsewhere, Douglas Codona presented the usual March Fair at Dumfries, Hornes opened at Ayr Racecourse for their annual March visit. All 6 of Hornes machines were present along with Juveniles supplied by Billy Reader, Nathaniel Codona and GA Hickey. John Evans revived old ground with a short opening at Mayfield. 5 Machines were present with 2 new debuts in ownership. Warren Evans Dodgems purchased from George Irvin and Ervin Gambles Twist purchased from Albert Wheatley last year. Both machines seemed to be doing well when I visited, along with the 3 other machines. Fair was fenced off and had security guards present, as is the story with most fairs these days. Whites opened their usual pre Kirkcaldy fair in the South Inch Car Park starting in the last week of March. Line up was same as last year with 1 new machine, this being Anthony Strands "Rage Cage" Round Up. Photo report online soon.

As mentioned before, quite a few machines have changed hands. As well as the above, Reuben Slater has purchased a Challenger/Skymaster ride and a Rock'O'Plane, Im sure he will do very well with both of these new additions. Non Guild Showman Kenny Stuart has purchased a Twist which im sure he will travel along with his Waltzers.
