There are usually on 2 fairs in December that everyone talks about - SECC Glasgow and Winter Wonderland in Edinburgh. Although Braehead Shopping Centre hosts a small fair and does Glasgow City Centre, SECC and Wonderland are by far the biggest. This years "Winter Wonderland" was no different to the last few years presentations by M&D Taylors with most of their juvenile rides making up the fair in Princes Street Gardens next to the Ice Rink. This year, however, the firms "Big Apple" coaster was rethemed "The Christmas Pudding" Coaster with the "Apple" redecorated as a Christmas Pudding! M&D's Giant Wheel and Holdens Gallopers were in their usual positions on Princes Street and along side them returning for a second year themed the "Flying Carousel" was M&Ds Waveswinger.
Although not part of the "Winter Wonderland" fair, M&D's presented their annual Hogmany fair on Market Street in conjuction with the Street Party open from 28th December to 1st January. A number of changes to the line up this year meant a different selection of rides for the public which I think is by far the best line up so far. Nathan Harts Booster, Sheldon Locks Rotor, David Taylors Freak Out, S&D Leisures Reverse Bungee and M&D's "Eclipse" were all on first time visits to the fair. Darren Nobles Powersurge and Anthony Harris' Miami were also present making main attraction count 7. Asa Johnsons colourful Funhouse also made a return visit, as to did Jon Manders Simulator.
As mentioned before the other large fair starting at the end of December is the Irn-Bru Carnival held at the SECC in Glasgow which runs to the 14th January 2007. Major attractions at this event include Joey Silcocks Speedflip, Joey Farrells Top Spin, Harry Millers Spinning Coaster and John Armitages Polyp to name but a few, full report will feature in Januarys review but their is still plenty of time to get yourself along to the SECC for yourself.
